Garnet. January birthstone.

Garnet. January birthstone.

Some believe the true value of the garnet birthstone is its power to bring its wearer good health, wealth and happiness.

The name “garnet” is derived from the Latin granatus, from granum (grain, seed), possibly a reference to the vivid red seed covers of the pomegranate, which are similar in shape, size, and color to some garnet crystals.

Garnets are generally thought of as red, but they can also be orange, pink, green, black, and honey brown. All species of garnet have similar physical properties and crystal forms, but differ in chemical composition.

Garnet is the gemstone usually given as gift for the 2nd wedding anniversary.
