JEWELRY CARE

Each piece of our jewelry is hand-crafted and therefore delicate. Please use appropriate care to enjoy our jewelry for a long time.

Avoid any abrasive materials when cleaning, as they can scratch the metals. This is vital to keeping your piece in the best conditions.

Please do NOT dip any Carlota Guardia piece in jewelry cleaners or solutions. This may cause corrosion and permanent damage to the metal.

Stone Jewelry

Cleaning stone, gold and silver is quick and simple. Place your jewelry in a small bowl of warm water with baking soda. Then leave it for a few minutes for traces and dust to disappear. You may also want to use an extra soft toothbrush, preferably used, for a more thorough cleaning. Finally, rinse with clean water and dry using a soft cloth.

Sterling + Fine Silver

When worn regularly, silver usually keeps it bright state. If kept on a dresser for long periods of time unworn (depending on the climate you live in) it can tarnish. You can easily rid your silver jewelry of tarnish with a simple polish, but we recommend wearing your jewelry often to naturally prevent this.

Avoid exposure: contact with household chemicals, perspiration, rubber, chlorinated water, or any substances which contain sulfur (e.g., mayonnaise, eggs, mustard, onions, latex, wool), will cause corrosion and tarnish — so it’s a good idea to remove silver jewelry when doing household chores.

Lotions, cosmetics, hair spray, hair products, and perfumes are also “enemies” of silver and will accelerate tarnishing. There’s a reason why generations of women have been getting dressed with jewelry last, as a finishing touch!

Silver is soft and can easily be scratched. You can use a special silver cloth to polish your items, but a lint-free flannel, microfiber, or other soft nonabrasive cloth will do as well. Do not use paper towels or tissues to polish your jewelry as they contain fibers that can scratch the silver.

Oxidized Jewelry

For pieces that come oxidized, wear as normal and allow the patina process to continue. If you prefer less oxidization just run under water and rub away a bit with a polishing cloth. Using a polish or cleanser on your oxidized piece will remove the patina and bring it back to a silver state, so please be aware of this. Black oxidation will often wear away and become lighter with time and continuous wear.
